Masstown Market Brand Refresh

If you’re from Nova Scotia there’s a pretty good chance you know this brand. When I was hired to work on a brand refresh with them, that’s one of the things I thought about most. How do you rebrand an icon?

With long standing beloved brands like Masstown Market there is a lot of equity built up in the existing brand. People see the logo and associate it with good feelings. A brand new brand identity would lose all of that.

Luckily in the case of the market the logo concept was strong, it was just the execution that needed help. My approach to the new logo was to build upon the existing logo and create a new, modernized version that could work across applications across print and web.

By keeping the concept but refreshing the approach we were able to keep all of the positive associations people have with the brand while setting them up for success as the business grows and modernizes.
